Amble Development Trust

The Development Trust is working with Business in the Community - North East, on a project to help the fishing communities in North Shields secure long term sustainability for their industry.

The Trust is represented in this work by Julia Aston and Colin Robson

Key work has been carried out in the area of sustainability with work including:

Taking fisherman to the continent to look at best practices methods and innovative ideas to add value to produce, that may lead to future sustainability.

Attempting to influence key decision makers to re-define the current model by which fishing in the North East can be more sustainable than current systems.

Attempting to encourage businesses to engage in local procurement of fresh fish to make the current market more sustainable.

Work with relevant organisations to secure funding to develop the physical infrastructure of the West Quay, North Shields.

Julia Aston & Colin Robson hope to develop a sustainable fisheries model which could be adopted by other coastal fishing communities and legislative bodies.
